Get ready, Colorado Springs—Bruno Mars is breaking his nearly decade-long headline tour hiatus, and he’s bringing the party to your backyard! But here’s where it gets exciting: this isn’t just any concert; it’s one of the largest events Falcon Stadium at the U.S. Air Force Academy has ever hosted. And this is the part most people miss—it’s a testament to years of strategic planning and major upgrades to the venue. Let’s dive into why this is such a big deal.
On September 26, Bruno Mars will take the stage as part of his highly anticipated worldwide stadium tour, announced just this week. For the Air Force Academy, landing an artist of his caliber has been a long-term goal, fueled by recent renovations that transformed Falcon Stadium into a premier event space. Nick Kiger, chief program officer for Air Force Athletics, shared the vision behind these changes: ‘We’ve had a desire for a while to start bringing more major events to Falcon Stadium. We renovated the stadium with the hope of hosting big-time concerts and events again.’
The renovations, completed last year, focused on the east side of the stadium, adding a brand-new east club, premium seating, rooftop decks, and upgraded concessions and restrooms. But here’s a detail fans might not notice—yet it’s crucial: the tunnel was redesigned to accommodate semi-trucks, making it possible to bring in the massive production required for a show of this scale. ‘We were strategic in doing that,’ Kiger explained, ‘so we could host events like this concert.’
Falcon Stadium, which seats just over 39,000, will feature a reconfigured layout for the concert, with some seats removed to make way for the stage and additional floor seating. While ticket prices haven’t been finalized, officials promise a range of options to ensure accessibility. ‘This is a public event,’ Kiger emphasized, addressing a common misconception about the Academy. ‘We’re open to the public and thrilled to welcome everyone.’
But here’s where it gets controversial: Some might question whether the revenue from such a high-profile event truly benefits the Academy. Kiger assures that every dollar generated will be reinvested into cadet programs and athletics. ‘All of the money goes back to our cadet athletes and cadets across the academy,’ he said. ‘Everything supports our programs.’
For Colorado Springs residents, this concert is a rare opportunity to see a global superstar without the hassle of traveling to Denver. ‘To go to big shows, you typically have to go to Denver,’ Kiger noted. ‘We feel so fortunate to have a major artist coming to our venue.’ However, with a large-scale event comes traffic concerns. Academy officials encourage concertgoers to carpool, arrive early, and plan ahead.
Presale begins Wednesday, January 14, at 12 p.m. local time. To participate, fans must sign up at BrunoMars.com by Monday, January 12, at 10 a.m. PT. General ticket sales start Thursday, January 15, at noon local time. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this historic event!
