Is Vince McMahon still pulling the strings in WWE, even after his departure? That's the burning question Shane Douglas tackles in his latest podcast, and the answer might surprise you. Douglas, now a seasoned podcaster, has been fielding fan questions, and his insights offer a fascinating glimpse behind the curtain.
When asked if TKO is 'destroying' WWE, Douglas' response was far from a simple yes or no. He dove deep, offering a compelling perspective on the inner workings of the company.
"The problem, I think, is that even though Vince is supposedly gone, who did Hunter learn from? Vince. Who did Stephanie learn from? Vince. So them still being involved in it, they’re probably going to keep getting Vince, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least, in fact, it would be my expectation that Hunter’s probably talking to him quite a lot," Douglas explained.
But here's where it gets controversial... Douglas suggests that even with Triple H at the helm, the influence of Vince McMahon may still be strong. After all, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon learned the ropes from Vince himself.
"That’s not to say that Hunter’s not creating his own ideas or putting his own stamp on it, but if you learn from Dominic DeNucci, you’re probably going to deliver like Dominic DeNucci. If you learn from Shane Douglas to do a promo, you’re probably going to sound like Shane Douglas doing a promo. That’s no criticism of Hunter. I mean, it’s pretty d**n successful on a business level," Douglas continued. This statement implies that Triple H's creative direction, while perhaps innovative, is inevitably colored by his mentor's influence.
It's worth noting that TKO and WWE have seemingly distanced themselves from Vince McMahon, with his recent appearances being limited to archival footage, such as a brief clip in a John Cena tribute video. This raises the question: Is this a genuine severing of ties, or a carefully crafted image?
